Augmented/Mixed Reality Equipment Evaluation – Ultrasound
augmented reality mixed reality maintenance construction training
Key Performance Metrics
- NDecrease classroom time to train on abstract
- NHard-to-understand concepts of ultrasonics
- NIncrease memory retention
Customer Problem
The current generation of technicians who are entering highly technical fields with high stakes involved, need to quickly learn very difficult concepts.
Ultrasonic technology is used for detecting various status in metals, plastics, and healthcare including the human body. To bridge the gap, technicians can use AR to understand and use interactive, visual technologies that they are familiar with.
Solution
simpleAR was used to develop an AR training and job aid for Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) inspectors to access and interact with NDE instrumentation and sensor information in Training and On Job – Real Environment (AR) & Open Space (VR).
On the ultrasound application, the user can see sound visualized through AR in real-time, thus dramatically reducing the learning curve. It provides AR-based visualization of high frequency ultrasonic energy that propagates through materials in the form of waves. It allows users to accurately detect equipment flaws invisible to the naked eye.
